SS Stockholm (1915)

The Stockholm was painted with neutrality markings following the maiden voyage.

This postcard written from Anneborg (Sweden) and posted on the Halmstad - Goteborg railway
(PLK 153B) on 29 May 1917 was addressed to Chicago USA from where it was redirected to Muskegon
Michigan on 6 July 1917. The reverse of the postcard depicts the Stockholm in its wartime colours.

The Kristianiafjord of the Norwegian American Line departed New York for Norway via Halifax on
7 July 1917 but was wrecked on 15 July off Cape Race and destroyed in a storm on 28 July and declared
a total loss on 1 August. Passengers and crew from the Kristianiaf]ord who had previously been in
Canada were taken directly from St John's Newfoundland to board the Stockholm which took them to
Goteborg. The remaining passengers were taken to New York on board the Bergensfjord.

Thus the Stockholm was still crossing the Atlantic at least until August 1917, before being laid up for the
                                                   remainder of the war.
