Mercy Ships - Gripsholm (1925)


             Following departure from Port Elizabeth, the Gripsholm reached Rio de Janeiro on 15 November.


             Envelope posted on board the Gripsholm with metermark applied on 17 November 1943 at Rio de
             Janeiro. It was then forwarded to Boston in the USA by Airmail on 20 November. The Gripsholm
                          continued its return to New York where it arrived on I December 1943.

         The Gripsholm then made two smaller missions early in 1944 and two final missions, in September 1944
          and January 1945. After the war she was used to deport prisoners of war to Europe before being returned
                        to the SAL where it commenced regular passenger services in March 1946.
