Benjamin Disraeli, Earl of Beaconsfield, and Prime Minister 1874 to 1880

Two privately carried covers, 'Private & Confidential' and 'Private', from politicians to Benjamin Disraeli. Both can
be dated from the time of Disraeli's elevation to the peerage - 187 6 - until his death five years later. The first from
Sir Austen Layard ( 1817-1894 ), politician, dipfomat and archaeologist, who was the British Minister in Constantinople
from 1877 to 1880, but was a Liberal whereas Disraeli was a Conservative. The second to the Earl.as Prime Minister,
as addressed to 10 Downing Street, and from the Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons,
Sir Stafford Northcote, Bart. Both have the signatures of the senders of the correspondence .
