Postcard from Japan to England, via Siberia, in October 1936 (year Showa 11).
Addressed to Sir Robert Leicester Harmsworth (1870-1937), this would be one of the last communications
received by him from his son, Alfred (Froose ), as he was to die twelve weeks later. Leicester Harmsworth was
a liberal politician, representing Caithness from 1900-18, and Caithness and Sutherland 1918-22.
Alfred, who became the 2nd Baronet, married Margaret Jlall in the previous July, and this may well be an
extended honeymoon of travel, as he says "We return tQ1/(yoto today .... We leave for Chtna on the 31st".
Their marriage was brief, as they divorced in 1939. ·
