MS Gripsholm (1925)
This map postcard was sent by Uno Soderberg on 28 January 1934 on the stage between Naples and
Alexandria. The greeting is printed in Swedish on the map card: "This a greeting from a wonderful trip.
The weather is glorious and Gripsholm brought following winds and slowly rocking waves. All are
satisfied, and how could it be otherwise? Hearty greetings from sunny climes"

A special printing of the map postcard was produced in French, English and Swedish versions to celebrate
the Gripsholm crossing the equator for the first time. In addition to the now regular cachet indicating the
stage of the cruise, a cachet for the crossing of the equator was applied on 24 February. This example is
written by Uno [Soderberg] to his wife Frida at the Castle, Djursholm, Sweden. Zanzibar was the next
stop after the crossing of the equator (on 27 February), followed by Mombasa (on 28 February) and Port
Sudan (on 9 March).
