MS Gripsholm (1925)
The Gripsholm continued its transatlantic run throughout the 1930s. An interesting item is a letter posted
on board the Gripshohn on 4 June 1938. The cover has a pen and ink sketch by the sender who was on the
staff of the President of the USA, Franklin D Roosevelt. Roosevelt was an avid stamp collector and many
letters were addressed to him for his collection. He kept all of these and only after his death in 1945 were
the sold (at four HR Harmer auctions in 1946).
