                This is the first of three Type II hand stamps issued to this office and it was issued on 20th February 1855.
                    This hand stamp in black ink is recorded used between 24th February 1855 and 28 h October 1856.

           Above you can see an example of this hand stamp on two strips of three 1 d reds paying the double rate of 6d to the
                   Crimea. It was posted to a Lieutenant Henry Barlow Maule of the 3 rd Artillery in the Crimean War.
             It is dated the 28th May 1856 and it shows the code letter 0. Note how the Post Office Clerk has managed to use
              only the obliterator part of the sideways duplex to cancel five of the stamps and has used the whole cancel on
                 the first stamp to identify the office of posting which was conect according to Post Office regulations.
