BRIGHTON TYPE II
TYPE A original
This was the first of five Type II hand stamps issued to this town. It was issued on the 12th May 1855.
This hand stamp was recut in November 1856. I have recorded only two strikes of this recut.
Above you will see two examples of this hand stamp. The first is on a small envelope from Dublin to Brighton via
London. On arrival in Brighton it has been redirected to London and a Id red added to pay for the redirection.
The Id red has been cancelled with the above hand stamp and is dated 20th June I856 and shows the code letter E.
The second example is seen on a J?ostal stationery envelope paying the inland postage to London.
It is dated the I 7 August 1856 and also shows the code letter E.
