This was one of only two sideways duplexes that were not entered in the proof books, the other being Helston.
It is also the rarest as this is the only example of this town I have recorded in 20years of collecting the sideways
duplex hand stamp. There is not even an example in the Post Office musewn the only office not represented.
This lone example is seen struck on a Postal Stationery Envelope dated 20th January 1857 using the code letter 'A'.
It is difficult to know why as yet only one example has survived as the strike does not look that clean suggesting tha1
it was used more frequently than its rarity suggests.
