FOLKES TONE
                   This Kent town which has many ferries leave its Docks received two different types of hand stamps.


                                                            TYPE II
            This was the first of the hand stamps and was issued on 23rd March 1857. This hand stamp has a rarity factor ofF.

































             As this hand stamp is rare it has been recorded for only a short time between 9th April and 12th December 1857.
               This strike is dated 19th May 1857 and shows the code B. The letter was written in French and started out in
               Boulogne. It was carried across the Channel and posted in Folkestone where it would have cost less to post.

             This was the second hand stamp, it was issued on 1 J1h December 1857 and is common with a rarity factor of A





























              The above strike is dated 23rd September 1860 and shows the code B. This hand stamp was recut seven times.
