A letter dated 13th November 1857 was posted in Darlington to Newcastle. It has been signed "not known" then
after seven days delay was posted in Newcastle to Gateshead. There it received the Newcastle hand stamp dated
20th November 1857 for dispatch to Gateshead. This strike has again cancelled the stamp maybe to stop its reuse.
CIRENCESTER TYPE II with MAIDENHEAD TYPE VIII
Cirencester was issued on 25th September 1855. Maidenhead was issued on 30th September 1857.
This letter dated 4th November 1857 was posted in Cirencester to Maidenhead. On arrival the postage stamp is
again cancelled this time with a Maidenhead sideways duplex. The receiving office would usually strike its date
stamp as an arrival mark I think they thought the stamp had not been cancelled enough so made sure it was.
