THE FINAL YEARS: THE AIRMAIL PROBLEM AND ABOLISHMENT
A nice example to illustrate the «airmail» problem, is this Dutch reply issued in 1970. In the Netherlands the
airmail rate for international postcards was abolished on 01.07.1964. So the question part could bear the
«airmail» label without any extra costs. Still for the return part an extra airmail surcharge was needed, to be
covered with local stamps from the sending country.
