THE FINAL YEARS: THE AIRMAIL PROBLEM AND ABOLISHMENT
The World Postal Congress in Tokyo 1969 decided to discontinue the usage of double cards with prepaid reply
by 01.07.1971. Thus era of reply cards in international mail came to an end on 30.06.1971.
Belgian reply card used in May 1971 – some 7 weeks before the last day – back from East Germany.
The Belgian tax marking is for general delivery handling.
British reply card used back from the Bahamas on 29.06.1971 – just two days from the terminal date.
Its is uncertain whether the card loved the warm Bahamian weather and remained under the Caribbean sun
until January 1972, as the date stamp from Nassau indicates, or if the Nassau PO was prone to error and had a
mismatch in the year figure …
