In the 1930s the Finnish communities on the west coast of the Rybachi Peninsula in
the Barents Sea, then part of Finland, had their post collected and delivered by a small
coastal steamer the MIS Jaameri. The mail collected received the ship's postal cachet
and was taken to the postoffice at the port of Petsamo for onward transmission.
