1820 entire from St. Petersburg in Russia to England carried over the Finnish
Southern Post Route via Helsinki to Turk:u and on to Eckero in the Aland Islands.
Then carried by the post-boat service to Grisslehamn in Sweden where the straight
line Grislehamn transit postmark was applied. It would then have been taken via
Stockholm, Gateborg and Harwich to London and then on to Church Cobham.

A charge of2/ld. was applied after the letter arrived in London and was made up as
follows: 6d. ship letter rate; 1/6d. treble letter rate (there were two enclosures); and
Id. local delivery rate. There is no indication of the charge for the carriage of the
letter from St Petersburg in Russia to GOteborg in Sweden. There is an indistinct
St. Petersburg straight line handstamp under the large manuscript '2'.
