to Cape Town in South Africa by the Finnish sail training ship the KIL Suomen

Joutsen. Backstamped with the Suomen Joutsen circular datestamp on 2 . February
1938, Cape Town paquebot mark applied on arrival on 16th February 1938.
KIL Suomen Joutsen postmark on reverse.
In 1938 no stamps were on sale on Tristan da Cunha and islanders were often sent
valid British stamps to pre-pay for return mail to Great Britain.
The Suomen Joutsen sailed from Helsinki on 20th October 1937 and called at Funchal
(Madeira), Montevideo, (Uruguay); Tristan da Cunha, Cape Town (South Africa),
Calais (France) and returned to Helsinki on 12th May 1938.
