MS Gripsholm (1925)

The Gripsholm continued to operate on the Atlantic run between Goteborg and New York when not
cruising. The Stockholm was sold in 1928 with arrival of the purpose-built Kungsholm. This left three
liners operated by the SAL, the third being the older Drottningholm. On 24 November 1928, the
Kungsholm left Goteborg on its maiden voyage and for the first time a SAL liner carried a post office on
board. Each of the three liners had the same canceller "SJP 7 GOTEBORG- NEW YORK" (SJP -
Sjopost =sea post), a cachet specific to each liner and a separate "Paquebot" cachet.

Official SAL postcard (English language version) posted on board the Gripsholm with the SJP 7 date-
stamp of 11 March 1929 and the two cachets from the ship's post office.

"I'll land at Halifax tomorrow but
                  just for 2 hours ... "

Halifax had been introduced as a
stopping point between New York and
                       Goteborg.
