TYPE B original

This was the second of the Type II hand stamps and the most interesting the reasons for this I will explain later.
This hand stamp was issued on 20th April 1855. Like the Type A hand stamp this was also recut I believe twice.
The first recut being issued on 19th December 1856. I have recorded this original hand stamp in use between
14th May 1856 and 30th November 1856. I have also recorded codes E,H,I,K and L used with this hand stamp.

This strike is dated 28th January 1856 and shows the code letter I along with the letter Kone of the common codes.
The above envelope was first posted in the U.S.A. from somewhere in New Hampshire on the 10th January1856.
There were no postage stamps affixed in the U.S.A. as the fee was paid in cash shown by the figure 19 in red, and
indicated by the double arc dated hand stamp of America Paid Liverpool, this postmarked the 27th January.
It was sent to Bristol and arrived on the 27th January, it was redirected from there to Nottingham and has a
Park St Bristol, Sub office date stamp on the reverse, this is likely the office it was taken to be forwarded on.
Also on the reverse are a Boston Br Packet single circle date stamp of 16th January and a Bristol receiving date
stamp of 28th January. A Birmingham date stamp also of 28th January and a Nottingham date stamp of 29th January
are also on the reverse. As you can see a British Id red was added in Bristol on the 28th January this was to pay the
redirection fee from Bristol to Nottingham as redirection at this time was not free.
