TYPE III Original
This was the second of two different types of sideways duplexes issued to this office. The first being a Type II hand
stamp. It was issued on the 20th May 1857 and was recut in February 1860.

Above you will see two lovely examples of this hand stamp, the first dated 3rd January 1859 and showing the code
letter 'C'. It was posted to Rome and has a ld red, 4d cannine and 6d lilac postage stamp paying the 1 ld rate to Italy.
The second example is dated 9th December 1857 and is seen on two ld reds and a 6d lilac paying the postage to
Hamburg in Germany both letters have traveled via London.
