Here is another example of this Type IV sideways duplex from Exeter.
Above can be seen a rather special example of this hand stamp dated 13 August 185 8 and showing the code H.
It shows 12 copies of the Id red stars and 2 copies of the 2d blue with stars a rare combination, it is addressed to
Paris France. This makes a rate of l/4d which is the rate for 1 oz quite a heavy letter. The single rate would have
been 4d for mail to France in 1858. There were many different codes used in this hand stamp they were:
B,C,D,E,F,G,H and L with this run of codes it is probably that the missing letters were also used but as
yet not been recorded by me.
