This was the only sideways duplex issued to this town though it was recut in 1864. It was issued on the
5th August 1857. It is seen used between 3rd September 1857 and 3rd September 1864. It has a scarcity rating of C.

RE CUT
This was recut from the above hand stamp then issued on 10th October 1864. It is recorded used between the
19th September 1867 and 11th August 1873. It also has a scarcity rating of C.

Above you can see an example of this recut hand stamp. It is seen on a 9d surface printed stamp paying the postage ti
India. This is a very rare stamp to be cancelled with a sideways duplex as by 1867 when the stamp was issued most
offices had stopped using the sideways duplex hand stamp. It is dated 6th August 1872 and shows the code letter C.
There is a gap of 3 years between the issue of this duplex and the earliest recorded date which I am sure will change
