BRIGHTON TYPE Vb
TYPE A2 2nd recut
This was recut from a Type A2 1st recut hand stamp then issued on the 17th September 1859.
Above you can see an example ofthis hand stamp with a strip of 3 ld reds and a 6d surface printed stamp paying the
postage to India. It is dated 25th November 1859 and shows the code D 1. You can see that four strikes of this hand
stamp have been used to cancel the postage stamps. There is also a strike on the bottom right this is to identify the
office of posting as the other strikes do not show a clear strike of the town. Note how only the C.D.S has been used
this is because the obliterator was only to be used to cancel the postage stamp.
TYPE A2 3rd recut
This was recut from the above hand stamp and then issued on the 13th June 1860.
Here you will see an example of this hand stamp on a mourning envelope with a l d red paying the inland postage.
It is dated 15th February 1861 and shows the code D2. This hand stam~ was recut for a 4th time but I have not
recorded any examples after the issued date of 27 November 1862.
