This style of sideways duplex was unique to London and this one was issued on 24th March 1857 as were all the
original London sideways duplexes. It is recorded used between 22nd April 1857 and 8th December 1860.
It has a scarcity rating ofD as do all of the London sideways duplexes.
Above you will see two examples of this hand stamp. The first is seen on a block of 4 Id reds paying the postage to
Belgium and is dated the 18th December 1857 and is showing the normal numeral code on this occasion a No.6.
It is thought the numerals could represent real time but it cannot be proved. The second example is seen on a
pair of 4d surface printed stamps paying the double rate postage to Konigsberg in Prussia. It is dated the
21st February 1860 and it shows the code letters XA.
