This was recut from the I st recut hand stamp then issued on I st July 1859. It is recorded used between the
2nd July 1859 and 20th October 1860. It has a scarcity rating ofD as do all of the London sideways duplexes.

Above you can see two examples of this hand stamp. The first is seen on a Id postal stationery envelope and is dated
the 16th October 1860 and it shows the numeral code 11. The second example is seen on a 4d surface printed paying
the postage to Paris France. It is dated the 7th March 1860 and it is showing the numeral code 12. You can see that th<
stamp has been placed on the left of the envelope which was against post office regulations. The stamp has been
cancelled by the obliterator part of the duplex as was correct. This meant that the office of posting was not obvious s<
another strike was placed at the top right where the stamp should have been placed so as to identify clearly the office
of posting. You can see a PD struck in red to indicate that postage had been paid to its destination.
