The Type VI hand stamp is unique to London. This is the only Type Vlb hand stamp which has the S.E. of South
East in the date stamp. It was issued on 24th March 1857. The Type Vla has only London in the date stamp.
This example is seen dated 13th December 1859 and shows the number code 6. It is seen on an envelope addressed
within London cancelling a 1 d red paying the inland postage.
LONDON S.E. 9 recut
This recut was issued on 14th January 1861 and was the only recut ofthis hand stamp.
Here you can see an example of this hand stamp dated 21st May 1861 with the code letter X one of the letter codes
occasionally used. It is seen cancelling a 4d postage stamp paying the postage rate to France.
