ADDITIONAL FRANKING FOR SPECIAL DISPATCH SERVICES: AIR MAIL
The most frequent additional franking was for airmail services and introduced in the 1920s. Even though
discussed, the airmail fee was never included in the initial reply card fee.
German reply card returned from Switzerland in 1929 with an extra Swiss franking of 50 Cent, paid using a
special airmail stamp.
German reply card with a 15 Pfenning «Hitler» incipium. Mailed back from Switzerland by airmail with an extra
Swiss 20 Cent stamp covering the airmail fee. The card shows a censor mark from Nazi‐Germany, but since the
card was not delivered before the end of the war, also an Allied military censorship mark. «Hitler» was
blackened.
