4.3 REGULATIONS AND PRACTICES –COMMON NON-UPU REGULATED PRACTICES

           OBLITERATION ALONGSIDE INCIPIUM OR FRANKING
One of the most common but surely not regulated practises was cancellation alongside the imprinted or adhesive
stamp. This practise shows the lasting and widespread uncertainties in handling the foreign stamps.

Reply postcard issued by the Principality of Monaco. Returned from Italy in 1891.The Italian cancellation was
placed next to the incipium, not cancelling it. In Monaco it was cancelled on arrival.

Austrian reply card returned in 1910 from Swatow/China. The Chinese datestamp is placed on the far left side
of the card – the incipium remains uncanceled. The country of designation for Vienna was incorrectly given as
                                                Germany instead of Austria.
