EN ROUTE MARKINGS FROM THE ORIGINAL MAILING OF THE QUESTION PART
By the time of mailing back, all reply cards had already travelled from the place of origin of the question part.
Even though most double card layouts sheltered the reply card with by the folded over question part, transit
markings from the original mailing can often be found. Also, several countries required the reply part be date-
stamped upon receipt of the question card.
Romanian 10 Lei reply card showing a full array of postmarks documenting the en route:
Two markings from Bucharest 04.12.1896 (date of the mailing of the question part), two markings from
Amiens 09.12.1896 (date of mailing of the reply part) and a final marking from the receipt of the reply part at
Bucharest 13.12.1896.
Estonian reply card mailed back from Latvia 22.03.1928. The card shows a marking from Tallinn/Estonia dated
13.03.1928 from the initial mailing of the question part and a receiving mark from Tallinn again dated
23.03.1928.
