           INADMISSIBLE MIXED FRANKING

Another example of simple maths and the attempt to add different currencies is above card: Insufficiently
prepaid at 8 Pfennigs instead of the needed 10, an 4 Öre stamp was added instead of the 10 Öre needed to
cover the full postage. The card bears a marking «Utilstrækkelig frankeret» ‐ «insufficient postage», which
again was later deleted. Ultimately the card was delivered without postage due.

Swedish reply card prepaid at 6 Öre, made up by a 5 (fem) Öre incipium and a 1 Öre adhesive stamp, while the
correct postage would have been 10 Öre. The card was returned from Germany with an extra franking of 3
Pfenning to make up the suspected missing postage. The card lead to further confusion and received a tax
marking of 10 Öre – most likely taking into consideration the 5 Öre incipium plus a collection fee of 5 Öre, later
corrected to 8 (Öre), double the value of the missing 4 Öre. According UPU regulations only the Germany
franking was valid and postage due of 14 Öre would have been payable.
