5.2 ERRORS, MISUNDERSTANDINGS AND MISUSES –BYPOSTAL AGENCIES
INCORRECT NON‐ACCEPTANCE OF FOREIGN FRANKING AND ERRONEOUS TAX MARKINGS
Almost a «piece of art» is this reply card, mailed from then Austrian Hochwald in Bohemia back to Bavaria. The
card received an ink stroke cancellation. The incipium was marked invalid and a big «T» was applied as a tax
marking. The marking of the incipium and the tax marking were later deleted.
UK reply card correctly prepaid at 2 1/2 d , returned Paris CDS 31.05.1956 bearing an additional franking of 45
Franc to cover the registration fee. Even thought the UK franking must have been accepted at the post office at
the time of posting, the UK franking was later considered invalided and marked «0,00» (zero) and a tax
marking was applied.
