5 .2 ERRORS, MISUNDERSTANDINGS AND MISUSES –BYPOSTAL AGENCIES
Besides errors and misunderstanding on the part of the postal customers, many errors of postal
employees as well as postal agencies as such are also known. This chapter gives an overview.
LACK OF IDENTIFICATION IN FRENCH LANGUAGE
An error that sometimes occurred was the lack identification as reply card in French language as «Carte
Réponse». or even at all.
Above: Reply part of an Uruguay international double card first issued 1897. The card lacks any remark that it
is a reply card in any language. The card was used back from Argentina, where a rate of 2 cents would have
been sufficient.
Below: Reply card from Peru first issued 1885/86. The card only states «paid reply» in Spanish but not in
French as required by UPU
