TYPE II

With 139 offices being issued with type the size of the date stamps varied considerably.

                                  DERBY TYPE B (small C.D.S. 23mm dia.)
This hand stamp was issued on 4th March 1856. More than one Type II was issued to this office each one being
identified with a capital letter. I have used this idea on all other offices with more than one stamp of the same type.

Above is shown an example of this hand stamp dated 27th December 1855. This one has been struck in blue ink
when black ink was usually used. I have seen very few using blue ink and cannot be sure if all are Type B.

                                  DERBY TYPE C (large C.D.S. 27mm diae)
The last of the three Type II hand stamps was issued on 17th January 1857 the date stamp being much larger.

The above example is dated 4th March 1857 and shows the much larger dates stamp. As can be seen neither
examples shows a code letter, this was quite usual for the Derby office though letter codes are also known.
