Though the vast majority of the sideways duplexes were struck in black ink there were a few exceptions.
The only coloured inks I have seen used are green and blue. I do not lmow whether or not the use of coloured
inks was intended or not. I believe that in the case of the green ink it was just a case of inconect mixing.
BRENTWOOD in GREEN
This town is one of fourteen that I have recorded using green ink some towns with only one example recorded.
Here an example of this ink can be seen used above on an entire to Italy and dated 9th June 1856 and using the
code 'A'. Not a common hand stamp with a rarity rating of C in black ink. This must increase to Fin green ink.
BATH in BLUE
I have recorded 15 towns using this coloured ink again some towns with only example recorded.

The strike shown above dated 1st March 1857 and using the code Tis the only strike I have recorded used in blue
as a receivers stamp. At least the use of this ink is understandable as a back stamp. Rarity B in black and F in blue.
