BATH TYPE A original

                                                        TYPE II green
This hand stamp was issued on 20th January 1855. I have recorded it used in green mainly during October 1855
though one is recorded in May 1856 which I have not seen. I also have an example in blue used during Oct. 185 5 .

This example although lightly struck is clearly in green. It is dated 9th October 1855 with code J. Maybe wrong
mix of ink is responsible for the green ink though this does not explain why blue ink was used at the same time.

                                           CANTERBURY TYPE B green
This hand stamp was issued on 17th January 1857. Usually found using black ink I have recorded green used
between April and July 1857. The examples I have seen are only a green black so I think it is bad mix of ink again.

Here is an example dated 30th May 1857. The date stamp has a green look to it but the numeral which is on the
postage stamp does look blacker. I do not think there was any reason for using a green ink instead of black.
