WINCHESTER TYPE II

                                                   TYPE A (green ink)
This was the first of two hand stamps that were issued to this town. The second was not issued until 1857.
This Type A hand stamp was issued on the 11th June 1856 and was recut 3 times.

Here you can see an example of this hand stamp in green ink, this is the only example I have recorded used with
green ink. It is dated 6 h August 1856 which is the earliest date I have recorded for this Type A hand stamp.
                                     1
                                                   TYPE A (black ink)

This is the same hand stamp as above but used with the right coloured ink as instructed by the Post Office.
It has scarcity rating of A common.

This is an example of this hand stamp showing the correct black ink used. It is dated 28th January 1857 and shows the
code letter C. This hand stamp was recut for the first time in July 1857.
