                                                    TYPE VIII 1st recut

This was recut from the original Type VIII hand stamp then issued on gth November 185 8.

Here you can see an example of the above hand stamp on a 6d surface printed and a 2d stamp. The 6d was paying the
registration fee as can be seen by the word registered written in ink along with the date and a signature of John, was
he the P.O. Clerk? On arrival in London a registered oval in red was stmck. Also on the front is a Weybridge C.D.S.
then on the reverse is a Bath arrival date stamp. It is dated 11th July 1860 and it shows the code letter C.
                                                    TYPE VIII 2nd recut
This was recut from the above hand stamp then issued on the 10th January 1861. Both these hand stamps have a
scarcity rating ofD very scarce. This recut is recorded used up until July 1862.

Here you can see a perfect strike of this hand stamp on a 1 d Postal stationery envelope paying the inland postage.
It is dated 21st June 1862 and shows the code letter C. Code letters A,B and C are the only codes I have recorded
used in this Type VIII hand stamp.
