TYPE II
This town was the only station office to receive a sideways duplex hand stamp though there were two types. This
Type II was issued on 14-07-56 and there were no recuts.
This hand stamp had a short period of use between June 1856 and March 1857. The above is a registered letter and it
is seen canceling a 6d embossed paying the registration fee and a 1 d paying the postage. The date of 31st June 1856 is
so far the earliest recorded date for this hand stamp. Code letter 'B' has been used; others known are Convoy & none.
TYPE Vb
This was the second type of sideways which was issued on 10-09-57 there were no recuts.

This hand stamp had a longer life but is still a rare hand stamp and is recorded used between Oct 1857 and Mar 1859.
Above you can see an example dated 14th August 1858 with the code letter 'C'. Other codes seen used A & Csdwys.
