ALDERSHOT CAMP

This Hampshire military camp was the only camp to receive a sideways duplex. Two different hand stamps
were issued, this TYPE II was the first issued on 28-07-55 and there were no recuts. It was in use from
Sept 55 to Apr 57. The other stamp was a Type ill issued latter in May 1857.

The first of the two envelopes above shows a strike with a 6d lilac used, addressed to Nice.
The stamp was in use for less than two years and is not often seen so it is unusual to find it on 6d lilac.
The second strilce seen here on the 1 d red is the normal postage stamp that was used.
Both of the above strikes show the code 'B' probably the most often used, though codes 'A' and no code
                                                   have also been recorded used.
